A gun does not a soldier make
Wars are fought with armies. Lone soldiers don't fight wars. And, should they try, they would be the first of casualties.
Taking the word "war" in a looser, broader sense, you can suggest that if someone breaks into your home, you can "war" with them. One-on-one can be a war, in this sense.
But, if you are taking up your weapon against government, the plurality and strength of your opponent means you must have fellow soldiers if you are to fight. One person with a gun in his closet will stand little chance if the government brings missiles and bombs.
Some suggest we should not take weapons from our populace because the people need those weapons to stand up to the government should the government ever get out of line. I would guess many of these people are anxious to join militias, for they will do little good in standing up to government on their own.
