If the gun is your peace,

 you have no peace at all.

We have heard the gun referred to as a peacemaker. But, if your peace must be protected with a gun, all that means is your peace is always in danger. All it means is that as soon as some one comes along with a bigger gun, or a faster draw, all your peace will be lost.
