Don't Take a Fist to the Poor

Don't take a fist to the poor.
Don't pound them into submission.
Don't gut the programs that help them.
Don't make that your mission.

The poor of the land—
the poverty-stricken—
don't scheme up all the ways
you can give them a lickin'.

Our nation is rich,
but it has its poor,
and let's hope the rich
don't show them the door.
