Have not yet caught up on everything about President Trump's new rules on immigration, but I understand he wants a deadline on hearings.
Render a decision, quickly -- say, within 180 days.
One hundred and eighty days -- if that is what it is -- is way to long. You should be able to render a decision much, much quicker.
Nevertheless, I hail the president's call to quicken the process. I do not know that we should weaken the asylum seekers ability to get a positive decision -- and it does seem that that is what Trump is also seeking -- but I like the idea of quicker decisions. I do not know that we should take away the appeal process -- and it seems Trump is proposing that -- but I like the suggestion that the initial trial should be quick.
