Battle of Kursk
The Battle of Kursk in World War IIThe single largest battle in history
But if I asked you about the battle
To you, it'd be a mystery
Nazi Germany on one side
The Soviet Union on the other
With the mightiest of efforts
They sought to level each other
The Soviets, alone, had 2.5 million soldiers
An astounding number, indeed
They outnumbered the Germans
And that, in good part, is why they did succeed
It was the largest tank battle in history
With 6,000 tanks and armored vehicles, you see
Aircraft shot down?
The Soviets lost 432 on July 5, alone
The Germans 249
That's 681 in a single day
The greatest number of all time
If you count both sides
Maybe a half million were killed, captured and missing
That the battle finally ended August 23
Certainly was a blessing
