Don't marginalize the Constitution
Don't say it doesn't apply
Don't say the immigrant is outside its bounds
Please, don't even try

Don't limit the Constitution
Don't suggest it's out of its lane
Don't take that venerable document
And throw it off the train

The immigrant, too, is protected
By the Constitution of our land
The words "people" and "person" are used
Not "citizen" -- understand?

Go ahead and try to change it
Try to diminish that document, if you will
But the Constitution remains the law
Even though you think it's ill
