Teardrops in the Cup
Teardrops fell in the cup
Slightly disturbing the chocolate
Across the table, he looked up at her
His lady known as Scarlet
He saw the tear drop into the cup
He took his napkin out
And wiped the next tear away
He loved her without a doubt
She spoke of her father
Of horseback rides with him
Of ice skating down at the pond
And of how wonderful things had been
She left the homeland
Just three years ago
But he stayed there
She couldn't get him to go
Another teardrop fell
Dropping in the cup
She tried to smile through her tears
Tried to be chin-up
She briefly sipped her chocolate
Then looked up again
Her tears
Making her eyes look dim
In the fatherland, in the homeland
War raged, taking lives at its will
And the tears in her cup of chocolate
Witnessed that the war was raging still
