The most important thing in overcoming drug addiction is the desire to do it. It is the key. If a person has enough desire, they will do it.
We would imagine most drug and alcohol treatment centers to work on building up a desire in the addict.
Those of the Latter-Day Saint faith, might see a connection with this. "(E)ven if you can no more than desire to believe," says their scripture.
