Here are Some Gun Law Possibilities

Too often, discussion of gun restrictions is left at an open-ended "Let's do something. Kids are dying, People are dying. It's past time we do something."

Give me specifics on what gun laws we should have. There are those who discuss specifics, let's join them. I'll throw out some thoughts, which are subject to change.

Up the age limit for kids to own or carry guns. Some have suggested 21. I'll say 23, just to be pressing the issue.

Punish parents who are aware their children bought guns illegally.

Do not allow assault weapons at all.

Have background checks. I've seen figures showing that as many as 90 percent of Americans favor background check.

Have everyone who buys a gun go through training on when they should not use the gun. Don't use it in rage. Do not use it if there are other alternatives that will work just as well. Don't use it just because someone has committed a crime and are running away. Don't bring guns to places where you know you won't need them.

If a person says they are going to use their weapon to kill someone, immediately take it away from them. Give them a hearing to verify they made the threat, but do not wait to take the weapon from them.

Open-carry permits gained in one state should not be good in every state. Each state should be allowed to say if it wants open-carry.

I do not favor gun registration. I have not heard of one killer being captured as a result of the law.
