Now David Leavitt Cannot Fight Against Plea Bargaining

David Leavitt did not expect to lose by so much. Oh, he was aware he probably would not be re-elected as Utah County attorney, but only getting 27 percent of the vote? No, he did not expect that.

Leavitt made fame for fighting the practice of plea bargaining, which allows prosecutors to persuade people to accept a conviction (even though the arrestee knows he or she is not guilty) in exchange for a light sentencing. It avoids having a jury trial, even though jury trials are guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.

The voters, though believed Leavitt was being soft on crime by letting too many criminals go free.
