It's Not Just This Poet
It's not just this poet
Who warns of Donald Trump
Far from it
Far greater voices are warning
Of the match that is being lit
Time magazine came out
Publishing an interview
The reporter wanted to know
What an elected Trump would do
The reporter asked our former president
Who wants to be president again
About all the former cabinet officers
Who now have him in their waste bin
Why should voters trust you
When those who know you well will not?
A danger to our republic, they say
And their warnings should give us thought
Donald calmly answered
Saying in his first term he was too nice
And those who will not support him now
Won't do so well, if he's elected twice
The reporter came away from the interviews
With the image of a man
Set on an imperial presidency
As the way of governing our fair land
He would withhold funds appropriated by Congress
And fire those who don't follow orders to prosecute
He would free those who attacked the Capitol
So their convictions would then be moot
He would gut the U.S. civil service
Deploy the National Guard where he sees fit
Now, all of this might be fine with you
But with me, it's not a whit
The prospect of Trump 2.0
The reporter goes on to say
Could be revolutionary
Democracy could go away
